"Leg of Lamb"

A prop eg of lamb made for a production of "The Cripple of Inishmaan" at Guide Bridge Theatre.

I taped newspaper to a solid base using masking tape to build up the shape of a leg of lamb, using reference pictures.

I then used paper mache to cover the structure. For the exposed, 'fleshy' part around the bone, I mixed the paper mache paste with toy stuffing and tiny pieces of ripped upholstery foam to give more variation in texture.

Once everything was dry, I painted using the emulsion paints available at the theatre, paying close attention to variations in colour within my reference pictures and adding in blue and yellow tones to mimic the tones often found in meat.
